Places to Go

Firenze…Finale!

The great benefit of staying in a city for longer than just a day or two: after resting for the afternoon in our hotel we walked out again into the evening – refreshed and ready to discover something new.  This time we wound our way down to the bottom of Viale Michelangelo only to climb up again to Piazzella Michelangelo and it’s rosy evening view of Florence in its entirety.

After admiring the view from every direction we headed down again in the direction of the Ponte Vecchio…

…and straight to Piazza Repubblica for the carousel! Spinning around to the accompaniment of lights and music casts a very carnevalesque glow over the already picturesque character of this city…  In a place where you feel like you are wandering out of time it seems completely natural to give in to the timeless whirling spin of a carousel ride!

After having our fill of fun we returned for dinner in the same restaurant (Maestro Ciliegie!) we had loved so much last time…The kids had the same pizza, but the grown ups indulged for our last night in Firenze.  We started with amazing salads, soon to be recreated in the Martini kitchen.

Insalata Estiva: greens with cucumber, watermelon, black olives, and feta cheese.

Insalata Primavera: greens with cantaloupe, tomatoes and shaved strips of Granada padana cheese.

The absolute show stopper: bistecca al fiorentina – a gorgeous white oxen t-bone steak grilled perfectly; juicy, tender, full of flavour…

This was probably the best steak I have ever eaten. We have talked about the deliciousness many times since, and I will be dreaming about it for years to come. If you get the chance to indulge yourself – do not hesitate!

We walked back to the hotel in the full moonlight, feeling lazy and lightheaded – just the way vacations need to be…

    • Thank you! Sadly for me these are the last of the Florence photos from our summer. I am already looking forward to our next visit, but until then I will enjoy your stories and pictures instead!
