Venezia… San Marco

Our Grand Canal vaporetto trip brought us right into the “heart” of Venice at St.Mark’s square.  (I highly recommend it if you get the chance – it is the first time I arrived at San Marco without already being exhausted!)  Even when it is crowded and hot, it is easy for me to love Venice.  The blend of ornate architecture from medieval trade contacts with Byzantine, Islamic and Gothic influences mixed with Palladian interpretations of classical buildings makes a gorgeous “jewel box” city… every corner is a piece of art…

The art and architecture were the perfect inspiration for my little artist – her pictures captured the Palazzo Ducale…

(Aren’t her pictures lovely? Thank you to Mimi for gifting our girl her very own camera, and to the city of Venice for being such an inspiring and willing subject…)

We were all spellbound by the details in the architecture…

Every direction you turn – every corner of every building – has another glimpse of history or art to inspire…

…one of my favourites just next to the bridge of sighs is the gorgeous indulgent Noah…(I think it’s because of the grapes…)

We stood in the shadow of the campanile and soaked in the essence of Venice… before photographing every inch of it!

Just outside this historical piazza the rest of Venice hums along…

We ventured down one tiny winding street after another as we worked our way north… stopping constantly absorb everything around us…

One of my favourite things to photograph: the shop windows, which are filled with things I never see at home.  (Why not?  I want to fill my suitcase with luscious looking marzipan fruits, licorice whips and tins of coffee or cookies…

Next stop… the Rialto bridge, San Polo and a few more detours down meandering alleys…
