Leap of Faith…

“Sometimes your only available method of transportation is a leap of faith.” (Margaret Sheperd)

Summer.

Weeks to fill with field trips, road trips, secondary routes and sedentary pastimes…

This year at the Martini house we are leaping into a big adventure: we are planning a trip to Europe! It is an opportunity to see family, to visit with old friends, to eat pizza and gelato in several countries and to take as many pictures as our cameras will allow…

Our first day of summer vacation was spent, among other things, checking out books at the library to help with travel planning.

It is exciting and terrifying all at once – travelling with children is an unsteady undertaking and could go either incredibly well, or not so much.

“I want to think again of dangerous and noble things. I want to be light and frolicsome. I want to be improbable, beautiful and afraid of nothing as though I had wings.” (Mary Oliver)

It has been five years since our last visit and so many things are different on all sides, but we are open to the adventure and experience at hand – it is an amazing opportunity for us as a family.

There is so much world to see… We are ready to leap out into it together.

First stop (hopefully?):

Jazz fest in Grisignana… The sight of fantastic experiences and memories from our last trip:

This plate hangs in my kitchen and reminds me everyday of the blue blue sky and the rich red earth of the Istrian countryside. Olive groves, grapes, sunflower fields, wild asparagus … Now I can’t get back there fast enough. I hope you come along for the adventure too! Where is your summer taking you?
