A Beautiful Ride

Life is indeed a beautiful ride. These days are a whirlwind of activity – if you are a parent or spend any time around children you will agree wholeheartedly – but there is wisdom in giving in to the beauty of the ride. Throw your arms in the air, take a deep breath and fly…

Some years ago I read about a quick method for keeping perspective: “10-10-10-10-10” – How will this decision affect my life in ten minutes? Ten days? Ten weeks? Months? Years? That ten second thought process is often enough to highlight what is or isn’t a “big deal” situation. It gives me the space to step back, take a breath, and often to laugh.

“The most wasted of all days is one without laughter.” (e.e. cummings)

“There is a vitality, an energy, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and be lost. The world will not have it.” (Martha Graham)

Don’t let the world lose out on the unique creative force that is you! Don’t let the whirlwind sweep you up and blow you off course! Look through the storm to the destination and ride the current along the way – look for the unexpected things that make you smile.

“Men go abroad to wonder at the height of mountains, the huge waves of the sea, the long course of rivers, the vast compass of the ocean, the circular motion of the stars… but they pass by themselves and don’t even notice.” (Saint Augustine)

Stop just for a moment and wonder at the fact that you are here, now. No one else can do the things you were created to do. Your journey is unique – it may be a whirlwind, it may be a slow and steady journey – but it is yours. Look ahead, lift your arms in the air, enjoy the ride…
